February

Entries for Spring Show & Sale close –  Entry documents are uploaded to the members’ area of website in plenty of time for vendors to familiarise themselves with various sections’ conditions and provide a wealth of information.

March

Spring Show & Sale at Sedgemoor Market – enjoy studying the catalogue and come along to see the crème de la crème of the breed!
Order this year’s Herd Book – the Breeders’ Bible and a fountain of knowledge, this is where to check your entries in the latest volume.
Familiarise yourself with Grassroots – the most efficient way to register calves.

April

AGM, Dinner and Prize Giving – a lovely social evening where the Society’s silverware gets handed out to well deserving members and a good opportunity to meet friends old and new.
Spring Calf Show  – held at Sedgemoor Market. A great opportunity for novice handlers and youngstock to prepare for the show season. There are some helpful hints & tips in the DCBS Show Guide Etiquette – ask a seasoned showing member for guidance and they will be delighted to oblige

May

Start of the showing season – kicked off by North Somerset Show (1 day) and Devon County Show (3 days).
The Society has a stand at all of the multi day Shows where designated Devon classes are catalogued, and is the meeting point for a post judging gathering following the Devon section classes – come along and join in, or just call by the stand for tea and a chat.

June

Royal Cornwall Show – multi day Show: In 2024, incorporating the DCBS National Show
Royal Three Counties Show – multi day Show
Bath & West Show – multi day Show

July

Submit Herd Competition entries – judged by DCBS President Elect. The moment for herds to parade their virtue on home turf, in their working clothes; and a great opportunity to invite skilled but sensitive feedback from a fresh perspective. Overall results may even earn you some silverware!

August

Judging of Herd Competition commences – President Elect and co-judge get in their car and start driving!
Entries close for the Autumn Show & Sale – held at Sedgemoor Market

September

Dorset County Show – multi day Show
Newbury Show – multi day Show
Visit to winner of Herd Competition – the overall winner of the Herd Competition proudly throws open their farm gate and welcomes all members to come along for a visit.
Autumn Show & Sale – all cattle lorries and trailers head to Sedgemoor once more.

October

Winter Fairs & Primestocks – schedules come out for the last showing sprint of the season: that of prime cattle. Most events have classes for native breeds and several have special prizes for Devons.

November

Winter Fairs begin

Christmas Primestock Shows – A chance to see prime cattle that will grace many a table at Christmas.
Next Year’s bull – time to start studying what bull you might be using next year. Always keep an eye on the For Sale pages of the website as well as the Semen list.
