Autumn Show & Sale Report October 5th, 2021

Despite a slightly diminished number of entries due to the ever present TB issues, we had a good show and sale.  5 top class bulls were presented to the Judge, David Barker in 2 classes. The winner of the Senior bull class was Coombe Fieldsman owned by S Cleverdon. In the second class Priorton Victory owned by JW May took first place.

The sale followed under Derek Biss’s expert skills, bringing good prices for the animals sold.  With Priorton Victory clinching the title of being highest priced bull in the sale fetching 3,400gns and Champion bull, Coombe Fieldsman fetching 2,100gns.  The top selling females were Champion female, Tregullow Fergie 5th, 1,400gns and Reserve Champion female, Tregullow Dorrie 5th, 1,200gns both owned by JP Williams.  These were closely followed in sale prices by a lovely group of quality females brought forward by H Rawson and H Darwin.

The Devons are back at the shows.

We now appear to be over the worst of the pandemic and the restricting conditions it placed on all our lives and businesses.  It is really good news that we are able to attend shows once again.

Congratulations to all those that have made the tremendous efforts to hold shows, no mean task, under the circumstances.  Also my admiration and gratitude goes out to all those exhibitors who have attended agricultural shows to date.  We can be proud in the performance of all the Devon cattle exhibited and have managed to come up trumps at the Devon County, Mid-Devon and Honiton shows recently.  Dira Halcyon EX93 owned by Mr John May was Reserve Inter Breed Champion Devon at the County Show and went on to be Inter Breed Champion at the Honiton Show.

Further Devon success was had by the Angela Poad breeder and owner of Exmoor Henrietta 5th who was Reserve Inter breed Champion Yearling and went on to be Reserve Inter Breed Champion in the pairs with Exmoor Curly 3rd at the Mid-Devon Show. Congratulations go to all exhibitors, it is great to see such prime Devon cattle at the top of the beef industry.
