Exmoor Bluebell, wins at Agri-fest 2018

9 November 2018

Exmoor Bluebell, bred & exhibited by Messrs Poad & Slee, winners of the native breeds, heifer class Exmoor Bluebell, bred & exhibited by Messrs Poad & Slee, winners of the native breeds, heifer class

Devon exhibitors made a good account of themselves in the pedigree classes. Kingsbury Tremendous, bred & exhibited by M&L Parsons stood third in a competitive native breeds bull class. The breed was represented in the prestigious Young Bull of the Year class by Ebbesbourne Saxon, bred & exhibited by Tom Hooper, of Hooper Farms, nr Salisbury, and Forde Abbey Solomon, bred & exhibited by Lisa Roper of Forde Abbey, Chard. Interestingly both these strong young bulls were sired by Colesden bulls from S&D Tutts, Colesden herd in Bedfordshire. Forde Abbey Solomon stood 3rd to the winning South Devon bull, with Ebbesbourne Saxon in 4th. A very impressive commercial cross-bred heifer, bred & produced by Whistley Farms, was kindly loaned to the breed stand by Stephen Potter, Whistley Farms, nr Bristol. This April 2017 born heifer, out of a pedigree Blonde, sired by pedigree Devon bull, Colleton Montgomery, weighed 560 kgs at 561 days, and was a very impressive demonstration of the benefits of using a Devon bull on a large framed continental cow.
